Hi friend! I hope you’re settling into the new year and not feeling too run down after the holiday season. Unfortunately with all the funtivities I didn’t get a ton of sleep (and may have imbibed a gin cocktail or two too many…) and so now I’m playing catch up with lots of green and beet juices, matcha maca lattes, and this amazing liver loving hot cocoa!

Aside from raw cacaowhich you know is an amazing source of magnesium and antioxidants, the main liver loving ingredient in this cocoa is Dandyblend. I’ve talked about it before long, long ago when my blob was still in its infancy and I was still a student at the Academy of Culinary Nutrition getting my CNE certification.

It’s a great replacement for coffee and contains roasted dandelion and chicory root extracts. Unlike coffee, which creates an acidic environment in the body and is loaded with caffeine, Dandy Blend has a supportive effect on the liver thanks to the dandelion root and it tastes just unbelievable.

You can use it as a replacement for coffee in recipes or drink it plain with hot water. It gives this recipe a slightly richer taste, and even folks who dislike coffee (like me!) will enjoy the richness it adds to this hot cocoa.

I’ve also added turmerica delicious deep yellow spice that aids in phase 2 liver detoxification. It’s also a potent anti-inflammatory that can help soothe inflammation accrued over the festive season. When used in small amounts it adds little flavour to food, but loads of great health benefits!

Instead of regular unpasteurized honey (which I love) I’ve been using manuka honey from New Zealand. This type of honey is quite a bit more expensive than it’s local counterpart, but it has great healing benefits thanks to its antibacterial and immune boosting effects. It’s a great food to use as medicine to help rebalance the body after the stress and fun of the holiday season.

Finally, I’ve been really into using fresh ginger tea as the base for all my drinks lately. It adds an amazing zing and really helps soothe the digestive tract. I’ve included the instructions at the bottom of the post.
